Product Information

************** OUT OF STOCK BUT TAKING ORDERS! **************
On Tuesday the 5th of August the New York Times published an article about the Aerovation Checkpoint Bag.  Up until now we've been quietly sending bags to our loyal customers most of whom were hat buyers.  Thank you so much for that.

Well, our little company got clobbered and suddenly we were out of laptop bags.  We won't have anymore until late August.  We've made a "command decision" to air freight these bags in from our Asian factory to cut the delivery time and get rolling again.

Last week Ben visited the factories and we can now confidently give everyone the opportunity to order your checkpoint friendly laptop bag with a 4-6 week delivery.  Because they aren't going to ship for a few weeks we're offering a limited time discount of 15%.

In order to smooth the pain you all must be feeling we've got a deal.  If you subscribe to our mailing list we'll post a notice when the next shipment arrives.  As an added incentive we'll include a coupon code for a 10% discount when you purchase anything in our store.

So order today.

PATENT PENDING
Over a quarter of all air travelers now carry laptop computers with them when they pass through airport or other screening checkpoints.  The requirement to remove the laptop computer from the bag is a common complaint.  Despite the inconvenience it poses to passengers, it is a necessary requirement in order to ensure that the X-ray image of the laptop computer is not further complicated by the superimposed images of the rest of the bags contents.  The Aerovation® Checkpoint Friendly laptop bag is designed to eliminate this requirement by allowing the laptop to be X-rayed without removing it from the bag.  We do this with a patent pending method of separating the laptop from the obstructing paraphernalia during the screening process.  Aerovation® Products has developed tested this bag in a real world screening environment.  We have filed both Design Patents and Utility Patents for this technology.

On June 11th, 2008 the TSA held a public conference call to chat with industry about the results of their testing and confirm that all of the laptop bags that they tested worked.  The Aerovation® Checkpoint Friendly™ Laptop Bag was one of those tested by TSA.  They listed a half dozen or so things not to do such as putting a zipper over the line of sight of the beam, making the bag out of heavy plastic, putting pouches on the bag that would allow objects to complicate or obstruct the view, etc.  I could add many other items to the "what not to do" list such as making the bag out of lead.  We were teased with the prospect of a design specification and were delivered a list of "don'ts"  The  Aerovation® Checkpoint Friendly™ Laptop Bag doesn't have any of the "don'ts" listed by the TSA.

In their defense, the TSA can't endorse a manufacturers products nor would I expect them to do that particularly since there are hundreds of laptop bag manufacturers all interested in selling laptop bags in this market.  We didn't expect a certification program.  However, a design specification would have been nice.

Where does that leave us?

The industry is now on their own to self-certify laptop bags.  The TSA testing program was designed to ensure industry was quick to react and furnish TSA with representative material to do their own internal analysis.  They saw the bags and found that industry can furnish satisfactory bags.  Our bag was part of that initial cadre.  That's all behind us and I doubt we hear from TSA again on this issue.  They will be changing the signs at checkpoints over the next few months(?) and training TSOs in the nuances of checking this class of laptop bag.

Aerovation® Products started the process of inventing our  Aerovation® Checkpoint Friendly™ Laptop Bag the instant we learned of the interest on the part of TSA.  The difference between us and the other bag manufacturers is that we are engineers and pilots not fashion designers.  We put all the effort into X-ray permeability not style.  The materials, padding, zippers, location of metals all were there to make sure the X-ray energy had a clear and unobstructed path from emitter to sensor.  We understood the constraints of the X-ray equipment and the issues with properly laying the bag on the scanning belt and removing it.  Not a single component of our Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Bag went in without function.  In other words, we built this bag so you have the best chance of not having your screening experience interrupted by a bag check.

In addition to the benefit of Checkpoint Friendliness the Aerovation® Checkpoint Friendly™ Laptop Bag also protects your laptop with 4mm of EVA foam padding between our rugged 1680D Nylon fabric and sateen liner we've added an extra measure of protection for your property.  The accessory compartment is also designed to give the traveler access to files, pens, cell phone and media.  There's also enough room for a change of underwear and toiletries.

DISCLAIMER:

One thing TSA did say proactively in their report was that just because a bag has the potential of being able to scan a laptop without removing it from the bag doesn't mean that any individual screening won't require secondary inspection, i.e. re-scanning or removal of the contents of the bag for further scrutiny.  There are other variables that may cause this such as putting things on top of or below the laptop that would complicate the image or putting a second laptop in the accessory compartment or equipment variations at the scanning station.   Aerovation Products has done everything we could do to make the bag functional and easy to use but can't be responsible for every screening event that takes place in the 2 million screenings that take place every day at security checkpoints.  TSAs responsibility is to ensure the safety of the traveling public.  The Aerovation® Checkpoint Friendly™ Laptop Bag will work when used according to the instructions.

Thank you and happy traveling!
